At the recent Political Forum in Copenhagen, the City of Kiel officially took over the chairmanship of STRING. The Lord Mayor of Kiel, Ulf Kämpfer, outlined the chairmanship programme and Kiel’s priorities for the year ahead, reinforcing STRING’s commitment to sustainable development, regional integration, and green transport infrastructure.
Key Focus areas under Kiel’s chairmanship
Kämpfer highlighted that under Kiel’s leadership, STRING will continue to drive forward its green agenda, particularly in sustainable transport, including the transition to hydrogen-based mobility solutions.
Another key priority is enhancing sustainable transport connectivity. STRING has long advocated for the expansion of high-speed rail networks, cross-border commuting solutions, and green shipping initiatives, all of which are central to achieving the region’s climate and economic goals. Kämpfer stressed that improving infrastructure links between Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway will be crucial in strengthening STRING’s position as a frontrunner in European climate-friendly transport solutions.
Lastly, a major milestone in the coming year will be Fehmarnbelt Days 2025, held in Lübeck— a flagship event highlighting the significance of the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link for economic integration, mobility, and cooperation across the STRING region.
