How much longer can we tolerate using trailers instead of trains?

Sep 6, 2024 | Infrastructure, Rail

Managing Director Thomas Becker and Infrastructure Consultant Marie Fløystad Dahl has recently published an op-ed in the Norwegian media outlet Norsk Klimastiftelse.

In the article titled “Hvor lenge skal vi godta trailer for tog?” (“How much longer can we tolerate using trailers instead of trains?”), Managing Director Thomas Becker and Infrastructure Consultant Marie Fløystad Dahl from STRING highlight the pressing need to upgrade the rail connection between Oslo and Gothenburg. As the opening of the Fehmarn Belt Tunnel approaches, creating a continuous transport route from Europe to the Nordics, Norway risks being left out of this critical green infrastructure corridor.

The op-ed underscores the immense societal, economic, and environmental benefits of completing the double-track railway between Oslo and Gothenburg. It also discusses the potential consequences for Norway’s green transition, trade, and defense if these upgrades are not prioritized.

Read the full article in Norwegian on Norsk Klimastiftelse’s website to learn more about why upgrading this railway connection is vital for Norway’s future.
